Dear Dr. Charles,
The pleasure of my short holiday trip to visit a daughter ended on a sour note when I returned to Beaufort and discovered from my manager that there had been some confusion about your reservations and you and Mrs. Charles were not able to stay in the East Wing that you have always preferred. Had I known at the time, I would have instructed the Desk to put you in the Fairway Cottage, which, ironically, was vacant. I should not have to apologize for a manager who is professional and a graduate of the Cornell Hotel Institute. However, he is new to the region and just arrived on the job last week. Otherwise, he would have been more imaginative in righting an obvious wrong. Please forgive us this once. And please accept the enclosed certificate for a complimentary night on the house the next time you come to Beaufort.
