Refusing To Reduce Rent

Dear Angie,

With regards to your request for reduction of your rent, I regret to inform you that I am unable to do so.

This is because of the high assessment and quit rent I have to pay to the local council for the building. From what I hear, these rates are due for an increase next year. If they do rise, then I might even have to increase the rent,  though I will try to absorb the increased cost if I can.

So you see, it is impossible for me to reduce the rent. The present rent is already the lowest possible. Just ask your neighbours and see how much they have to pay. Thank you.
