Belated Condolence

Dear Andrew,

I was grieved to hear that your partner had been killed in an automobile accident two weeks ago. I was in Chicago on business and did not receive the news until yesterday, upon my return. You have my deep sympathy, and even more so since I lost a close associate last year under similar circumstances and still feel a sense of shock when I think back on it. I did not know Alan anywhere nearly as well as I know you, but I’ll always recall him as one of the brightest young men in our field and one with a keen sense of humor under life.

Although I missed the memorial service, I have asked our treasurer to send a company donation to the Heart Association, as mentioned in the newspaper clipping that my wife showed me.
